Windows 11 reached one billion users faster than Windows 10.

The operating system (OS) Windows 11 has reached one billion users. This was reported by The Verge, citing the corporation Microsoft.

"Windows has reached an important milestone: one billion users," said Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. The top manager announced this during the report for the second quarter of the 2026 financial year. Nadella emphasized that the audience of the current OS has grown by 45 percent over the year.

Journalists noted that, according to Microsoft data, Windows 11 reached one billion users faster than Windows 10. The current system achieved this in 1,576 days since its release, while the previous generation OS took 1,706 days. At the same time, the authors reminded that Microsoft promised to announce the billionth user within three years of the release of Windows 11, but later adjusted these timelines.

The article also states that Windows 11 apparently had a significant influx of users at the end of 2025. They recalled that the head of the Windows division, Pavan Davuluri, stated at the Microsoft Ignite conference on November 19 that "almost a billion people" have started using Windows 11.

It was previously reported that the share of Windows 10 unexpectedly rose to 44.6 percent worldwide. According to StatCounter, the popularity of Windows 10 has only increased over the past two months, while the popularity of Windows 10 has decreased.
