In some countries, a regular diesel will also be available.

The new electric Hilux features all-wheel drive and a silent drive but has a lower towing capacity.

At the Brussels Motor Show, Toyota unveiled the first-ever electric Hilux for the European market. In addition to the fully electric Hilux BEV, a version with a mild hybrid diesel powertrain was also presented. Both models had previously debuted in Asia.

The company also confirmed that it is simultaneously working on a hydrogen version of the Hilux with fuel cells and is already testing such pickups on public roads.

All versions of the Hilux received an updated design in the Cyber Sumo style with more angular shapes and a robust appearance. The electric variant can be easily recognized by its solid front panel without a grille. Inside, there is only a double cab, a digital instrument panel, and a 12.3-inch multimedia screen, as well as a steering wheel from the new Land Cruiser.

For most customers, the familiar diesel version will remain key. In Europe, the main seller, according to Toyota's forecasts, will be the 2.8-liter diesel mild hybrid with 204 hp, which retains a payload capacity of up to 1000 kg and a towing capacity of up to 3500 kg. In some less developed countries in Europe, a regular diesel without a hybrid setup will also be available.

The electric Hilux BEV is primarily aimed at business customers looking to reduce operating costs and tax burdens. It is equipped with a 59.2 kWh battery and two electric motors—one on each axle, providing constant all-wheel drive. The front motor produces 205 Nm, while the rear motor delivers 268 Nm of torque. The WLTP range is 258 km, and in urban mode, it can reach up to 380 km.

However, electrification comes with compromises: the payload has decreased to 715 kg, and the maximum trailer weight is down to 1600 kg. But the structural foundation remains unchanged—a ladder chassis, a ground clearance of 212 mm, and the ability to traverse water depths of up to 700 mm. A special off-road driving mode is provided, optimized for electric traction and regenerative braking.

Sales in the UK and Europe will start in June. Toyota promises to announce prices in the coming months, but it is already clear that the new Hilux will be more expensive than its predecessor, regardless of the powertrain type.
