Windows 11 has received an emergency update that fixes the PC shutdown issue.
Microsoft has acknowledged one of the new issues with Windows 11 and has released a fix for the operating system (OS). This was noted by the publication Windows Central.
The issue, which prevented the OS from shutting down or entering sleep mode, became known in mid-January. According to journalists from the specialized media, the malfunctions were caused by a bug that Microsoft was quick to address.
The shutdown issue for personal computers (PCs) was fixed in updates KB5077744 and KB5077797. Microsoft emphasized that the malfunction was only detected on devices with the System Guard Secure Launch feature enabled.
According to Windows Central editor Zak Bowden, Microsoft still has not resolved several issues reported by users in 2025. For instance, the Windows Recovery Environment has stopped functioning correctly. Additionally, consumers have complained that the Windows dark theme may display with errors. "These problems need to be resolved if Microsoft wants to improve the overall image of Windows 11, which is currently in a deplorable state," Bowden concluded.
