Some Windows 11 PCs have stopped shutting down due to an update error.

Some Windows 11 computers have stopped shutting down after the January update. This was noted by Bleeping Computer.

The issue was observed after the release of the Windows 11 23H2 update. Users began to complain about problems on computers where the System Guard Secure Launch feature was enabled. Due to an unknown error, some personal computers (PCs) stopped responding to commands — to shut down or enter sleep mode. Such devices can only be turned off forcefully.

System Guard Secure Launch is a security feature designed to protect the boot process from firmware-level attacks and malware. Typically, it is activated on computers in organizations with a corporate Windows license.

Microsoft acknowledged the issue and stated that instead of executing the shutdown or sleep command, the computer may reboot. As a temporary workaround, Microsoft suggested shutting down the PC using the command "shutdown /s /t 0" through the terminal.
