Tesla has lost its leadership in the electric vehicle market – the top spot has been taken by the Chinese company BYD, reports Bloomberg.
Tesla's sales fell by 8.6% for the year, allowing Chinese company BYD to take the top spot among electric vehicle manufacturers in the world. Additionally, BYD delivered nearly 2.26 million electric cars over the year, while Tesla delivered about 1.64 million.
Musk's company attempted to shift focus to the development of robotaxis; however, currently, autonomous rides are available only in a limited number of vehicles in Austin and the San Francisco Bay Area, and with safety instructors.
Analysts are increasingly skeptical about Tesla's prospects in 2026: the delivery forecast has been lowered from over 3 million to approximately 1.8 million vehicles.
