The foldable iPhone will feature the Touch ID fingerprint scanner instead of Face ID.
Apple intends to install an old fingerprint scanner in its foldable smartphone instead of a new biometric sensor. This was stated by the well-known Chinese insider under the nickname Digital Chat Station on the social network Weibo.
It is expected that the American company will enter the foldable smartphone market in 2026. Sources have revealed that the iPhone Fold will feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor designed for scanning fingerprints. Thus, the company will not use the more advanced Face ID technology.
Digital Chat Station explained that the Face ID module or another ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology would take up too much space in the smartphone. He clarified that Apple aims to achieve the thinnest possible body for the foldable device.
The Touch ID sensor first appeared in the iPhone 5s, released in 2013. The last brand gadget with a fingerprint module was the iPhone SE 3rd generation, which was released in 2022. The current Apple smartphones use the Face ID biometric sensor based on the TrueDepth camera.
