The release of iOS 26.2 enabled automatic installation of updates on iPhone.
iPhone users began accidentally enabling the automatic updates feature after the release of the new version of iOS. This was noted by the specialized publication MacRumors.
Journalists explained that the operating system (OS) for iPhone already has an automatic updates feature. Thus, the smartphone can download and install an update without user involvement if it is connected to Wi-Fi and charging. After the release of iOS 26.2, it turned out that many iPhone owners accidentally enabled this feature.
Experts explained that after installing the iOS 26 update, a notification appears on the phone's screen, suggesting enabling automatic updates. It cannot be skipped: the user has to either agree by pressing "Continue" or allow only the downloading of updates in the background, without installing them. The release of iOS 26.2 caused a scandal.
Thus, a user on the MacRumors forum under the nickname kenta_ stated that he does not need either automatic updates or automatic downloads. "Apple is successfully learning from Microsoft," noted MacMediaNet. "This is not a bug, Apple is just tired of us continuing to use old versions of iOS," suggested a forum visitor under the nickname MacUserFella.
Journalists explained that many users are in no hurry to install new versions of iOS. Typically, they wait for more stable versions that are free of bugs.
