Analysts warn: smartphones and computers will become significantly more expensive in the near future.
The era of cheap electronics is coming to an end. In the near future, smartphones and computers will only become more expensive due to rising component prices in global markets, said Eldar Murtazin, the leading analyst at Mobile Research Group.
According to him, the price of laptops in Russian retail has already jumped by approximately 10 percent, and after the New Year, they will rise even more sharply. The main component causing the increase in technology prices is RAM. In recent months, demand for this part has surged due to major IT companies actively purchasing them to enhance the capacities of their data centers, which are working on AI training.
As a result, the price of RAM has started to rise. This global trend has also led to other changes in the market: graphics cards, SSDs, and hard drives have become more expensive. Therefore, the cost of all electronics as a whole has increased, as it consists of these components.
"If we talk about budget laptops that used to cost around 200 euros — now they have risen in price to 270-280 euros. They will continue to get more expensive by the New Year and after the New Year — the cost will reach 300 euros and above," the specialist added, noting that today everything related to RAM is increasing in price.
All this allows for an unflattering forecast — no segment of the technology market will be able to avoid price increases, Murtazin says. The price increase will affect both components, such as graphics cards, as well as smartphones and other devices, he concluded.
Earlier, specialists from Windows Central reported that to save on PC assembly, one should forgo unnecessary features. To avoid overpaying, users were advised to skip the purchase of DDR5 RAM with optional and unnecessary features — for example, RGB lighting or stylish cooling heatsinks.
