Satellites from the European Space Agency's (ESA) Copernicus program have captured the construction of the "Oxagon" port and logistics center in Saudi Arabia, which will become "the world's largest floating structure."

"Oxagon" is being built in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia. It will become a new megacity of the kingdom, which, according to the country's authorities, will be 33 times larger than New York.

Upon completion, Oxagon is expected to handle 12 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units, a measure of cargo capacity based on the volume of a 20-foot (6.1 meters) intermodal ISO container). For comparison, the container throughput of Russia's seaports in 2024 was 5.591 million TEU.

The handling of cargo flows will be entrusted to intelligent systems: artificial intelligence (AI) and an autonomous fleet will optimize logistics, including the operation of its own railway network integrated directly into the docking line.

The "Oxagon" itself is envisioned not just as a port, but as a hub for clean technologies. Its territory will house solar and wind power plants, as well as a powerful data center, which will affirm its status as a flagship of sustainable development and the digital economy.
