Windows Users Unexpectedly Stripped of Support

Microsoft has stripped Windows 10 users of support and updates.

Microsoft mistakenly sent notifications to Windows 10 users about the end of support for the operating system (OS). This was reported by Tom's Hardware.

Official support for Windows 10, released in 2015, will end on October 14, 2025. Many users are forced to replace functioning computers with more modern ones, which negatively impacts the environment. People are essentially discarding working computers that could last for years, but will end up in landfills. However, unexpectedly, Microsoft has left users the option to receive updates for free for at least another year, as users are strongly resisting and many are refusing to switch to the new operating system, expressing their dissatisfaction on social media. At the same time, Windows 10 computer owners reported that they received notifications about the immediate end of support for their OS version.

As journalists noted, such a notification appeared in the system settings, in the section related to its updates. Moreover, messages about the end of support began arriving as early as mid-October, as evidenced by posts on Reddit. Microsoft responded to the complaints and acknowledged that the notifications were sent out by mistake.

"The message 'Support for your version of Windows has ended' may be displayed incorrectly," the company explained. The IT giant has already released a patch that fixes the error. Microsoft concluded that Windows 10 owners will remain supported and will receive security updates in accordance with the operating system's lifecycle.

In early November, it became clear that Microsoft would delay the release of the major 26H2 update for most computers. Initially, it will be available only to owners of PCs with ARM processors and artificial intelligence (AI) support, followed by other users.
