A virus on Android-based smartphones has learned to steal money and imitate human behavior.

A virus capable of stealing money from users' banking applications has been found in the Android ecosystem. This was noted by the publication Android Authority.

The Trojan was discovered by specialists from the company ThreatFabric, who named it Herodotus. The malware can intercept SMS messages on smartphones that are used for authorization in services, including financial applications and banking programs. Once it gains access, the virus begins to study the application and transfers the victim's money to the accounts of fraudsters.

ThreatFabric noted the high danger of the virus. It is controlled by remote operators who use a delay of 0.3–3 seconds between actions. This way, the virus mimics the behavior of a real person, making it difficult to identify with built-in security systems and antivirus software.

"While older viruses often inserted text or clicked on elements at machine speed, making them easier to detect, Herodotus introduces random delays between data input," the experts noted. After the publication of the material, Google contacted the editorial office, stating that such viruses had not been encountered in the official Google Play app store.
