The publisher of GTA VI, Take-Two, stated that the delay of the game is not significant.
Take-Two has stated that the delay of GTA VI is not significant and is necessary to complete work on the title. This was reported by VentureBeat.
In an interview with journalists, Take-Two's head, who serves as the publisher of Rockstar Games, Strauss Zelnick commented on the postponement of GTA VI to May 26, 2026. According to him, the delay of the game from fall 2025 to May 2026 is necessary to "bring the innovative project to the level that fans demand."
Zelnick also noted that the delay of the game is not very large — less than six months. He emphasized that the fall-scheduled GTA VI did not have a specific release date, so the game's release was postponed by less than six months.
The head of Take-Two emphasized that Grand Theft Auto V has reached 215 million copies sold. He also admitted that the development of GTA VI began in 2020 — immediately after the commercial success of another Rockstar game, Red Dead Redemption 2. Zelnick concluded that the ambition and complexity of Grand Theft Auto VI surpass all previous Rockstar games.
Rockstar Games announced in early May the postponement of GTA VI to May 26, 2026. "We want to thank you for your support and patience while we work on finishing the game," the company noted. Initially, the title was supposed to be released in the fall of 2025.
In early September, well-known insider Tom Henderson predicted the inevitable delay of Grand Theft Auto VI. According to the author, Rockstar will postpone the release of the long-awaited game to fall 2026.
Recall that earlier the creator of GTA named the best video game. Thus, co-founder of Rockstar Games Dan Houser called RDR 2 - Red Dead Redemption 2 - his best game.
