Tesla has introduced an aggressive autonomous driving mode called "Mad Max."
Tesla vehicles have introduced a driving mode called "Mad Max." This was noted by the authors of the project Not a Tesla App.
The new mode appeared in the Full Self-Driving (FSD) 14.1.2 update. Its name refers to the cult dystopian action movie featuring futuristic cars. When activated, Tesla's autonomous driving system allows itself to increase speed on highways up to 85 miles per hour (140 kilometers per hour) and to drive the electric car more aggressively.
Enthusiasts explained that FSD in this mode is not supposed to violate traffic rules. However, the computer will more frequently drive at the maximum allowed speed and make more lane changes and maneuvers. Thus, the autonomous vehicle will actively change lanes to reach its destination faster.
At the same time, the FSD firmware already includes an active driving mode called "Hurry," which was introduced in the summer of 2024. When activated, the car also starts to cover distances faster and change lanes more often.
