Tesla has halted the release of Optimus robots due to issues with the arms.
Tesla Corporation has halted the production of Optimus robots due to problems. This was reported by The Information.
In March, the company's head, Elon Musk, stated that he would be able to release 5,000 units of robots by the end of 2025. Sources revealed that Tesla will not be able to achieve this ambitious goal and has revised its plans. Moreover, it is likely that the company will not produce any more robots this year.
The issue lies in the manipulators, which are lacking for the production of the machines. Experts explained that robotic arms are the most technically complex part of Tesla's humanoids. There are problems with the forearms that do not satisfy the engineers. Additionally, the development of Optimus has stalled since the robot's creator, Milan Kovach, left Musk's corporation in June.
Sources from The Information reported that Tesla employees are beginning to doubt in private conversations whether the company needs a humanoid robot, as the technical complexities and labor costs involved in its development are enormous. However, some of the produced machines are already being used in factories — for instance, the humanoids are sorting batteries for electric vehicles.
