Microsoft and Windows users should prepare for a security-related disaster. This is reported by Forbes.
According to the magazine's columnist Zak Doffman, after October 14, 2025 — the date when free support for Windows 10 ends — using the operating system (OS) will be unsafe. Doffman noted that Microsoft will release security patches for the OS under certain conditions, but the risk of serious vulnerabilities in Windows 10 remains very high.
The specialist referred to data from StatCounter, which shows that just weeks before the end of support for Windows 10, the operating system has a market share of about 50 percent. In comparison, when the end of support for Windows 8.1 approached, its share was a mere 2.2 percent.
The Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) also warns of impending issues. "When there are no more updates, quickly fixable exploits become open doors," the specialists noted. "If you are using Windows 10, whether at work or at home, you need to take action before October 14 if you haven't done so already," Doffman concluded.
