Usyk Loses Title of Best Boxer in the World: Who Surpassed Him

The Ukrainian boxer may regain this status as early as May this year.

World champion in the heavyweight division Oleksandr Usyk has lost the top position in the most prestigious ranking across all weight categories by The Ring magazine.

In this ranking, Usyk was surpassed by Japanese boxer Naoya Inoue (33-0, 27 KOs). The newly crowned leader of the ranking successfully defended all his titles this weekend in a fight against compatriot Junto Nakatani (32-1, 24 KOs). Also, rising in the TOP-5 of the ranking is heavyweight representative David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs), who knocked out Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs).

The complete ranking of the best boxers in the world (P4P) according to The Ring:

  1. Naoya Inoue (Japan)

  2. Oleksandr Usyk (Ukraine)

  3. Shakur Stevenson (USA)

  4. Jesse Rodriguez (USA)

  5. David Benavidez (USA)

  6. Dmitry Bivol (Russia)

  7. Junto Nakatani (Japan)

  8. Devin Haney (USA)

  9. Oscar Collazo (Puerto Rico)

  10. Emanuel Navarrete (Mexico)

It is worth noting that Oleksandr Usyk will fight on May 23. In Egypt, during the event The Ring: Glory in Giza, the Ukrainian will face kickboxing star from the Netherlands Rico Verhoeven (1-0, 1 KO). The WBC world champion title will be at stake.

During the press conference, Usyk referred to his opponent as a "cool guy." Meanwhile, the Dutchman began threatening the Ukrainian, saying he intends to "knock his head off."

Naoya Inoue is an undefeated Japanese professional boxer competing in the minimum weight, light flyweight, flyweight, and super flyweight divisions.
