American tennis player Coco Gauff commented on her loss to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (2:6, 6:4, 3:6) in the final match of the tournament in Miami.
“Honestly, I wasn’t really nervous before the match started. I wasn’t nervous at all throughout the week, except for the first round. It’s just that when you get to the final, you don’t expect it. There was no nervousness. I feel like I am far from my peak in tennis. So, I think I feel a bit more comfortable participating in these tournaments and showing great results.
And I clearly see what I can work on and what I can do much better, even in my serve, for example, in that game I had two double faults, it seems. And understanding that the more confident I am with it, those three points won’t go to waste. And no, I didn’t think about that in the last game. Honestly, I was focused on breaking back.
So I didn’t think about it the whole match until it was over. And I just thought, ‘Okay, this is something I can work on.’ Because it seemed to me that, yes, she deserved that game, but I feel like I also gave away a few easy points in that game,” said the 22-year-old American.
