“I will be allowed to compete in the future.” Italian Tommaso Giacomel started training after heart surgery

World Championship and Olympic medalist Italian biathlete Tommaso Giacomel announced that he has started training and that he has been allowed to compete in the future.

“Finally, I can breathe fresh air again, today is the third day of physical activity (because training is something else). It feels so good. I am actually dreaming about competitions, but the good news is that I will be allowed to compete in the future! I’m not used to watching races from the couch,” Giacomel wrote on social media.

At the 2026 Games in the 12 km mass start, Giacomel was in the lead after the second shooting, but soon ended his performance early. Later, the athlete underwent heart surgery and ended the 2025/26 season prematurely.
