American figure skater Ilia Malinin stated that he will wear laces at the Olympics that were gifted to him by Washington hockey player Alexander Ovechkin, reports CBC journalist Devin Heroux.
The 21-year-old athlete took to the ice on Monday for practice wearing yellow-gold laces. Ovechkin wears the same ones. After the session, the two-time world champion stated that he received the laces as a gift from the hockey player.
The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics is scheduled for February 6, with competitions in some sports starting on February 4 and 5. The Olympics will conclude on February 22.
