Linette served seven aces, made one double fault, and converted five out of nine break points. Williams hit seven aces with four double faults and won three out of seven break points earned during the match.
In the second round of the Auckland tournament, Linette will face the winner of the match between 101st-ranked American Alicia Parks and 81st-ranked Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
