The government is preparing to discuss the situation in Latgale.
As previously reported, at the initiative of Kulbergs, a field meeting of the government will take place in Latgale on June 27. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared an analysis of the situation in the border area for this meeting. Speaking specifically about the border itself, the Ministry of Internal Affairs identified several challenges: the resilience of physical border security, the provision of technological surveillance, personnel availability and workload, coordination of cooperation among involved structures, and readiness for a prolonged situation of increased risk.
Particular attention in the report is given to civil defense: the necessity of building shelters, training specialists, and improving alert systems.
The main deficiency at the moment is the level of preparedness for military threats.
