The chief advisor to the Lithuanian president on foreign policy, Asta Skaisgirite, stated that Lithuania will likely have to make efforts to resolve the recent dispute between the presidents of Poland and Ukraine.

According to her, both sides overreacted in the conflict over the deprivation of Polish state honors from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Now, it seems, efforts will have to be made to bring both presidents together and make them talk again," said Skaisgirite in an interview with the Ziniu radijas radio station.

The BNS agency reported that last week, President Zelensky of Ukraine caused discontent in Warsaw by naming one of the military units after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which was involved in the mass killings of Poles during World War II.

In response, Polish President Karol Nawrocki stripped Zelensky of the highest state honor — the Order of the White Eagle.

Following this step, several Ukrainian officials, including former presidents, refused Polish state awards.

A conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine will take place in Gdansk on Wednesday. Political observers suggest that Zelensky may refuse to participate in it.

Skaisgirite noted that this would "cloud the overall mood," however, important decisions for Ukraine will be made at the event regardless.
