Премьер Андрис Кулбергс

The head of government participated for the first time in a European Council meeting in Brussels.

Andris Kulbergs continues to keep his diary on social media, where he details his activities as Prime Minister and even counts the days he has been in office. This week, Kulbergs participated in a European Council meeting for the first time as Prime Minister (the main political decision-making body of the European Union, consisting of heads of state and government).

Immediately after the meeting, Kulbergs shared on social media platform X that European Council meetings are conducted in a very secretive manner - EU Prime Ministers do not use mobile phones or other gadgets, and outsiders, including bodyguards, are not allowed in the meeting room.

The Latvian Prime Minister also spoke about one lesson he learned upon entering politics:

"One thing you learn when you enter politics is that political conversations, which may seem empty, bare, or circular, ultimately have significant importance if important questions are hidden between the lines.

For example, in the European Council, in the general document of political positions, the struggle is for a couple of words in one paragraph over the course of two long days... It may seem foolish, but it later matters when it comes to the allocation of funds or the implementation of policies. If there is something to hold onto, then later you can refer to those lines to justify funding applications or programs, resource redistribution, etc."
