The Central Election Commission Made an Unexpected Decision

Clarity has been provided regarding the fate of the initiative to collect signatures for the right to choose pension savings.

Today, the Central Election Commission overwhelmingly agreed to begin collecting signatures for a referendum in support of amendments to the law regarding residents' right to withdraw their savings from the second pension level. It is worth noting that the initiative for the referendum on this issue was proposed by 'Latvia First'. After failing to gain support for their bills in the Saeima, Šlesers' party decided to seek help from the people. Now, citizens of Latvia have the opportunity to sign in favor of the referendum. The referendum will take place if more than 150,000 citizens of Latvia express their support for it.

In any case, 'Latvia First' promised to advance the bill on residents' right to choose their savings in the second pension level in the new Saeima.
