Airplanes ruined Karins' career, next in line is his successor.
So, Evika Silina has decided to stage a demarche: she is ready, in her own words, to break up the coalition just to achieve a positive vote in the Saeima on the issue of providing a loan to airBaltic. Her statement means that Silina is actually seriously considering the scenario of resigning or leaving the coalition partners - the 'Progressives' or the 'Green Farmers'. What prompted her to take such a step? Here are the most likely versions that we will now outline.
The first - to pressure the 'Green Farmers', the Prime Minister decided to seek help from part of the right opposition. Namely: from the leaders of the United List and the National Alliance. Hoping that either one or the other would agree to support the provision of a loan to the national airline in the Saeima's budget committee. However, when it became clear that the opposition was not going to help the Prime Minister - and thus save this government - Silina decided to essentially threaten her partners with resignation.
The second - Silina may have decided that this way she would scare her coalition partners and they... would immediately reconcile, and the 'Green Farmers' would vote for the loan for airBaltic tomorrow.
The third - Silina, or rather her party associates, so to speak from the inner circle, logically assumed that since the airplane scandal ruined such a political heavyweight as Karins, then the second version of this scandal, or if you will, the continuation of the airplane affair, would definitely ruin the current Prime Minister. Let us remind you: last night, former head of the State Chancellery Janis Citskovskis reported that in 2024, while heading to the USA, Silina went to the VIP area at the transfer airport - in Amsterdam - after which a bill for 4,000 euros was received for visiting the VIP area! Citskovskis refused to sign this bill, and then his deputy did so. Silina yesterday and today called Citskovskis's statements slander and threatened to go to court. To which the former official replied that he has all the documents in his folder, including a copy of the 4,000 euro bill. If the information is confirmed, Silina will be forced to resign by her own party members. It cannot be ruled out that the Prime Minister decided to resign under the pretext of fighting to save the national airline in this situation. This is much better, as it allows her to overshadow the scandal and remain on the political scene.
