To save airBaltic, the head of government decided to go all in.
Just a couple of hours ago, the head of government at a press conference after a meeting with the president refused to disclose all the details of the ultimatum from the 'green peasants' to the government and the 'Progressives' in exchange for their support in the Saeima for the loan to airBaltic. And now, according to rumors, after consulting with the leadership of her party, the Prime Minister made a statement on the social network X, in which she announced that the 'green peasants' were ready to vote for the provision of the loan to the airline on the condition that the Minister of Transport, Aitis Shvinkas ('Progressives'), resigns. 'If the price for ensuring support for airBaltic is the destruction of the ruling coalition, then I am ready for that,' wrote Evika Silina. Tomorrow at 8:00 AM, she is convening an extraordinary meeting of the coalition to discuss whether the partners are still willing to work in this government until the elections.
This essentially means that if the 'Progressives' do not convince Shvinkas to resign, then in that case, the Prime Minister herself will send him into resignation, risking a government crisis. Essentially, the government is hanging by a thread, and it will soon become clear whether Silina can once again save the government ship and herself as its captain.
