On Wednesday, the temporary chargé d'affaires of the Russian embassy was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), where a protest was expressed and a note was handed over regarding the intrusion of an unmanned aerial vehicle into Latvian airspace from Russian territory on the night of March 25, the MFA reported.
The MFA emphasizes that Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine is a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter. The Russian representative was again urged to cease aggression and withdraw Russian armed forces from all internationally recognized territory of Ukraine.
As reported, during the night, a drone entered Latvian airspace from Russia and exploded near the center of the Svariņi parish in the Kraslava region. Another drone briefly entered Latvian territory from Belarus and headed towards Russia.
President Edgars Rinkēvičs stated that the exploded drone was a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle, which apparently was part of a coordinated Ukrainian operation against Russian targets. He also expressed solidarity with Israel due to the shelling from Iran.
On the night of Wednesday, Ukraine attacked the Russian ports of Ust-Luga and Vyborg in the Leningrad region with drones. Earlier, Ukrainian drones struck the port of Primorsk in northwestern Russia. These ports are located on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea.
Drone crashes have also occurred in other Baltic countries in recent days.
