The State Border Guard does not forecast an increase in migration pressure on Latvia in the near future due to the conflict in the Middle East, LETA reports.

As General Guntis Pujats, the head of the State Border Guard, stated in an interview with the TV3 program "900 Seconds," he does not expect any direct impact from this situation in the near future, as air travel is limited. "We are not a land border country that is close enough for people to reach us on foot," Pujats said.

At the same time, he emphasized that any war contributes to migration, noting that the situation may change after the resumption of air travel, the establishment of a ceasefire, but while internal conflicts persist.

LETA has already reported that Israel and the United States began a war against Iran on February 28, and in turn, Iran launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and the countries of the Persian Gulf, where U.S. military facilities are located, including the United Arab Emirates. The conflict has also led to widespread restrictions on air travel.
