On Friday at 1:00 PM, at the Riga Castle, the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, will meet with representatives of Latvian senior schools, reported the president's advisor, Mārtiņš Drēgeris.
Senior schools, or "third age universities," in various regions of Latvia offer educational and community programs for older adults, promoting lifelong learning, socialization, and active participation in society.
During the conversation, it is planned to discuss opportunities for lifelong education for older adults, the development of the network of senior schools in Latvia, and initiatives to improve their quality of life.
As reported, in October of last year, Daugavpils University launched the initiative "Third Age University," aimed at expanding educational opportunities, social participation, and lifelong learning for older adults.
It is a place where one can acquire digital skills and computer literacy, foreign languages, basics of culture and art, health issues, legal knowledge, and principles of a healthy lifestyle, as well as make new acquaintances, share experiences, and actively participate in community life.
The goal of the initiative is to promote social inclusion and intergenerational dialogue, support and improve the cognitive, emotional, and physical health of older adults, and strengthen their role in society by ensuring equal access to education in all regions of Latvia.
