The chairman of the parliamentary investigative committee wants to limit the arrival in Latvia of citizens from third countries 'under the guise of students.'
Following two meetings of the parliamentary investigative committee, its chairman Janis Dombrava (National Alliance) shared his brief conclusions on social media:
At the meeting of the investigative committee, responsible authorities acknowledged the existence of serious problems with 'fake students.' Although the proposals made are still imperfect, the first solutions for stricter control of foreign students are finally being proposed.
RTU will refuse students from third countries in favor of students from EU countries and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Other universities have also realized that they will not be able to continue as they have until now, as legislation and oversight will become much stricter.
