An open competition has been announced in Latvia for the position of chairman of the board of the enterprise Latvijas valsts meži (LVM). The future leader of the largest state forestry company in the country is offered a monthly salary of 16,600 euros before taxes. Candidates can apply until June 29, 2026.
Candidates are expected to have an impeccable reputation, proficiency in the state language at the C1 level and English at no lower than B2, as well as a higher education in management, economics, finance, law, natural sciences, or engineering. In addition, the candidate must have at least three years of managerial experience in medium or large companies within the last ten years.
The future head of the company will manage a strategically important state enterprise, so among the requirements are an understanding of corporate governance, finance, investment processes, export markets, and forestry. Special attention is also given to skills in strategic management, team building, and stakeholder engagement.
The selection process will consist of several stages and will involve a special commission and the recruitment company Fontes Executive Search. Following the departure of the previous chairman, Peteris Putnins, at the end of 2025, the LVM board is currently composed of two members.
The issue of changing the company's leadership comes against the backdrop of ongoing discussions regarding the management of the enterprise. Previously, public attention was drawn to decisions related to the pricing policy for timber, state regulation, and audit findings that indicated multimillion-euro financial consequences for the company and the state. Furthermore, a criminal process is ongoing related to possible violations in providing support to wood processing enterprises.
Latvijas valsts meži remains one of the largest state enterprises in the country: the company manages forest areas and had a turnover of over 135 million euros in the first quarter of this year, with profits exceeding 51 million euros.
