The Minister of Finance, Arvils Ašeradens, announced this evening in a live broadcast on Latvian TV that the upcoming coalition council meeting on Monday, February 9, will discuss in detail possible options for providing assistance to the population in paying heating bills.
What options are being discussed? These include allowing residents to pay their heating bills in installments without penalty interest, as well as expanding the number of households that will be eligible for housing benefits from local governments.
The minister noted that the government will be ready to allocate additional funds for this purpose. The possibility of providing a loan from the state treasury to heating supply companies to ensure cash flow is also being discussed.
