Latvia plans to donate over 51,000 doses of the "Covid-19" vaccine to Ukraine free of charge, according to a draft order prepared by the Ministry of Health.

According to the Ministry of Health, 51,840 doses of the "Comirnaty Omicron LP.8.1" vaccines, which will no longer be used in the national vaccination campaign in Latvia, are to be transferred to Ukraine. The vaccines are valid until the end of 2026 and are currently stored at the State Blood Donor Center.

The demand for vaccination against "Covid-19" in Latvia has significantly decreased, resulting in a surplus of vaccines. These vaccines cannot be fully utilized before their expiration date.

In January, Ukraine informed Latvia of an urgent need for vaccines due to the worsening epidemiological situation and depletion of national stocks.

Latvia plans to cover all costs associated with the delivery of the vaccines, including transportation, storage, insurance, and logistics. The estimated transportation costs are around 16,500 euros.
