The leader of the National Alliance on the harm of the influx of migrants.
The leader of the National Alliance, the candidate for prime minister from this political force, Ilze Indrikson, explained her party's position on migration from third countries in an interview with Latvian Radio: "The import of cheap labor and mass migration brings no benefit to the Latvian economy — it is a short-term solution...
"If we are importing workers en masse who do not speak the state language, who work in these low-paid jobs, and in the end they also do not become part of our society, then we significantly increase security risks," said Indrikson.
At the same time, Indrikson admitted that she has a negative view of the situation with students from third countries in our universities. She emphasized that she believes education export is necessary, but it still needs to be of high quality — this means that Latvia should accept students who are capable of studying in quality programs and achieving results.
This could be verified through entrance tests — international exams that Latvian youth take when going to study in other countries. "Quality universities require this international entrance exam or test," said Indrikson.
In addition, Indrikson stated that countries should be purposefully selected from which to prioritize inviting students.
"In our view, those countries that were part of the former CIS group would not be our priority, and neither would unsafe, potentially dangerous countries of terrorism be a priority," emphasized Indrikson, noting that they do not oppose students from European countries, as well as, for example, students from the USA.
