Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia is gradually losing initiative on the battlefield, and the current situation may create conditions for a diplomatic resolution of the war before the next winter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the position of Russian troops on the front is gradually deteriorating, creating new opportunities for finding a political solution to the conflict.

In an interview with the American television channel CBS, he stated that since the end of last year, the Russian army has been facing increasing pressure and suffering serious losses. According to Zelensky, Ukrainian forces are managing to reclaim more territory than the Russian army can take under control.

The Ukrainian leader claims that in response to problems on the front, Moscow is increasing the intensity of airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.

Against this backdrop, Zelensky expressed the opinion that the coming months could become an important window of opportunity for diplomatic efforts. In his assessment, if pressure on Russia continues to increase, the likelihood of a political settlement before the next winter will rise. The President of Ukraine emphasized that Western partners of Kyiv should play a key role in this process.

He advocated for further strengthening of sanctions from the U.S. and European states, as well as increasing political pressure on the Russian leadership.

Separately, Zelensky touched upon the topic of the negotiation process. In his opinion, Europe should play a more active role in it. As one possible option, he proposed a format involving leading European states, including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

Zelensky's statement reflects the official position of the Ukrainian leadership and its assessment of the situation on the front. The Russian side provides its own interpretation of the course of hostilities and the prospects for conflict resolution.

The President of Ukraine also criticized the discussion in some countries about easing the sanctions policy towards Russia. According to him, any steps to weaken sanctions effectively help the Russian side continue military actions.

Zelensky linked this discussion to the situation in the global energy market and the consequences of the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, which affects oil prices and the decisions of individual states regarding sanctions policy.

The question of the prospects for negotiations and further sanctions pressure remains one of the central elements of the international discussion surrounding the war in Ukraine, which has been ongoing for more than four years.
