Deputies Will Visit the Closed Border Point in Vientuli 0 12

During the field meeting, the deputies will meet with representatives of the State Border Guard and the National Armed Forces, as well as visit the eastern border.

In October 2023, the Latvian government’s decision to suspend the operation of border crossing points with Russia in Pededze and Vientuli came into effect.

Latvia made this decision because Russia allowed holders of Ukrainian passports to enter its territory from third countries only through two border crossing points - through Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow and through the border crossing point in Vientuli on the Latvian-Russian border, which is one of the smallest border points on the border of the European Union and Russia.
