Vilis Kristopans on whether it will be possible to break the "green course" and defend traditional values
Time flies, and it has already been two years since the current European Parliament was elected. Member of the European Parliament Vilis Kristopans ("Patriots for Europe") summarized the work of his political group over these two years.
— I am proud to have been one of the founders of the "Patriots for Europe" group, and today we have a very united team of 84 like-minded deputies. I have always been impressed by political forces that have a clear position and do not change it, acting consistently and in accordance with their beliefs and promises made to voters. The political group "Patriots for Europe" has outlined its priorities from the very beginning and is trying to defend these priorities even while effectively working in opposition. What are these priorities? A strict migration policy, the development of entrepreneurship, traditional values, and the limitation of bureaucracy.
The reality is that the "left, liberal weather" still prevails in the European Parliament, rather than traditional, I would say Christian values. The left agenda means and... the absence of a migration policy or, more precisely, it is an open-door policy. I am absolutely convinced that this policy is detrimental to Europe; it is destroying our continent! Fortunately, we see that under pressure from voters, who are also tired of the influx of migrants from Asia and Africa, even conditionally centrist politicians are beginning to change their positions and support the tightening of migration policy. We consider our main success in the area of limiting migration to be the recent resolution adopted by the European Parliament, which obliges the European Commission to develop a legal framework for the expulsion of illegal migrants from the country!
Yes, old Europe has reached a situation where some special legal mechanism is needed to expel from EU countries those who have no legal grounds to be here at all! It is our group "Patriots for Europe" that achieved the adoption of the relevant document by the European Parliament! And now the European Commission has also agreed on the regulation regarding the procedure for expelling illegal migrants. After all, until now, only 20% of those who received a notice to leave the European Union actually left the EU!
It should be noted that the "Patriots for Europe" managed to achieve such success — the launch of a legal mechanism for the expulsion of illegal immigrants — thanks to the efforts of our colleague Mr. Fabrice Leggeri, who once headed Frontex. Frontex, I remind you, is the European Border and Coast Guard Agency. This agency helps ensure the security of the EU's external borders and prevent the entry of migrants from third countries into EU countries. Someone, and Leggeri knows very well, knows what humanitarian, criminal, and social consequences the "open door" policy leads to!
The second tangible result of the activities of the "Patriots for Europe" is the weakening of the so-called "green course." Gradually, the requirements within the framework of so-called climate neutrality are being softened, and the requirement to abandon the production of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035, that is, to transition only to electric vehicles, has already been effectively canceled.
This "green nonsense" sharply reduces Europe's competitiveness and destroys production! But the inertia is too strong, and so far it has not been possible to completely break the back of this "green course" policy. However, the "Patriots for Europe" do not give up, and we will continue to work towards the European Union returning to a normal economic policy.
Of course, we would like the European Parliament to work more efficiently, to reduce the bureaucracy that hinders economic development no less than the "green course." But there are still 3 years of work left for this convocation — we will act!
— Mr. Kristopans, your feelings: will it be possible to end the war in Ukraine this year or at least achieve a ceasefire?
— I do not have much optimism on this matter. Yes, there is a feeling that both sides want to end this slaughter, but so far, it seems, there is no readiness to make any significant compromises. Therefore, I certainly do not dare to predict when all this will end...
