The coalition in the Riga City Council voted for the ban on fireworks — the parties "Progressives", National Alliance, "New Unity", and "United List". Opponents of the ban were the opposition.
Thus, the use of fireworks and pyrotechnic products outdoors in the territory of Riga will be prohibited from June 1 to August 31 from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and from September 1 to May 31 from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
The ban on the use of pyrotechnics will not apply to public events approved by the Riga City Council, as well as on New Year's Eve — for one hour from midnight to 1:00 AM.
As stated by one of the vice-mayors of Riga, political support for the ban on fireworks and the use of pyrotechnics according to "Moscow time" has finally been achieved in the city. There, let us remind you, New Year arrives at 11:00 PM Latvian time.
"This is widely celebrated every year in the districts of Riga," the vice-mayor is confident. "In this matter, Riga must clearly express its Latvian position."
It should be noted that previously the use of pyrotechnic products was prohibited in Riga from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. So, shooting into the air immediately after the Kremlin clock strikes was not actually forbidden. The fact is that on New Year's according to Latvian time, the cannonade has always been louder and brighter.
