The State Audit Office will focus on inspections in the areas of security, defense, and law enforcement in 2025, reported State Auditor Edgars Korčagins.
The main areas that the State Audit Office will inspect next year will be security, defense, and law enforcement, said State Auditor Edgars Korčagins in an interview with Latvian Radio. The State Audit Office has already identified the topics for inspections next year, which are currently highly relevant, Korčagins stated.
Evaluating the past year, the head of the State Audit Office noted that largely due to the institution's proposals, progress has been made on several important issues, including the use of port fund resources, the work of municipal administrative commissions, and the pension system for length of service.
The head of the State Audit Office emphasized that the institution now uses innovations in the methods of auditors, including artificial intelligence, which allows for more effective analysis of large volumes of information. In response to a question about whether the State Audit Office feels political pressure in its work, Korčagins answered negatively. He stressed that the State Audit Office always chooses the topics of audits itself, based on the risks that auditors perceive.
