Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev, who received the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival for the film "Minotaur," appealed to President Vladimir Putin. But he will not hear him.

Zvyagintsev, who appealed to Putin to stop the military conflict in Ukraine, has no right to a voice, as he has not previously condemned Kyiv's actions regarding Donbas. This was stated bluntly by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov.

"I don’t think anyone will do that," Peskov said in response to a question about whether Putin was informed of Zvyagintsev's words.

"For me, it is important that Zvyagintsev has never condemned the bloody massacre that the Kyiv regime has unleashed in Donbas since 2014, when the war began. If he had done that back then, he would probably have a right to a voice, but now he does not have that right," Peskov replied when asked whether the director's words would be conveyed to the president.

The press secretary of the head of state also added that he does not judge Zvyagintsev's creative qualities and has not watched his new film, which won the Cannes Film Festival award.

What Zvyagintsev Asked to Convey to Putin

As reported by bb.lv, during the award ceremony, Zvyagintsev addressed Putin from the stage:

"He does not use a VPN to watch this ceremony live. But I know that there are people in his circle who know how to convey these words to him. And here are these words. Millions of people on both sides of the contact lines are now dreaming of only one thing. That the countless killings of people finally stop. And the only person who can stop this meat grinder is you, Mr. President of the Russian Federation. End this slaughter already. The whole world is waiting for this."
