The President of Latvia in Paris Recommended Macron to Increase Pressure on Putin

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, met today in Paris with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, as reported by bb.lv from the Office of the Head of the Republic of Latvia.

First, E. Rinkēvičs thanked France for its role in strengthening NATO's eastern flank, which is expressed in France's participation in the Baltic Air Policing mission, in the NATO battle group in Estonia, as well as in maintaining transatlantic dialogue and providing support to Ukraine.

Rinkēvičs urged the French to continue financial and military support for Ukraine, as well as to increase pressure on Russia.

The parties exchanged positions regarding the planned Multiannual Budget of the European Union (EU) for the next period. E. Rinkēvičs stated the need to support the regions most affected by Russia's war against Ukraine, as well as to ensure funding for the Rail Baltica project. It is equally important to provide EU funding for strengthening the eastern border and to ensure equal competitive conditions for all EU farmers.

The President of Latvia expressed confidence that a financially sustainable, digital, and competitive EU should be a priority, as the goal is a fully functioning EU Single Market and fair competition conditions—both within the Union and at a global level.

The working visit to Paris is taking place at the invitation of the President of France.
