Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Maris Zviedris declared his apartment in Sigulda, according to the official declaration submitted upon taking office, LETA reports.
Zviedris also owns two cars — a 1977 "VAZ 21011" and a 2016 "Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer."
In addition, upon taking office, Zviedris declared 109 shares of JSC "Virši-A" worth 414.09 euros.
As previously reported, the Saeima elected Zviedris as the chairman of the CEC on June 19 of this year, and he took office on July 30.
In a prior interview with the LETA agency, Zviedris noted that his main goal is to restore public trust and the trust of election organizers, especially the heads of municipal electoral commissions, in the electoral process in Latvia.
In his opinion, it is important to make this process more understandable and transparent.
It was previously reported that the need for a new CEC chairman arose after the former head of the commission, Kristīne Saulīte, resigned.
According to the law on the "Central Election Commission," the CEC is a permanent and elected state institution responsible for preparing and conducting elections to the Saeima, the European Parliament, local government bodies, as well as referendums and initiatives for the adoption of laws.
The CEC consists of nine members. The chairman of the commission and seven of its members are elected by the Saeima, while one member from among the judges is elected by the Plenary of the Supreme Court.
