Jurģis Liepnieks calls for action rather than discussion. But not everyone agrees with him.
Famous political technologist Jurģis Liepnieks reacted on the social network X to the military's call to dismantle the rails on the Russian route, that is, to destroy the broad gauge railway connecting us with the former Soviet republics. "It’s the fourth year of war, and the government is still 'discussing' this issue. The responsible parties - both the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Communications - represent the same party, 'Progressives'. If this is not sabotage of the state's defense, then what is it?" lamented J. Liepnieks. Some commentators, agreeing with the political scientist, added that the Prime Minister should also take political responsibility for possible sabotage.
One commentator reacted to the call to dismantle the sleepers with sad irony: "A good plan - several tens of thousands of Latvians who will end up unemployed can be enlisted in the army, and thus we will become the strongest army in the region."
"Or maybe we should demolish the rails together with the Lithuanians? Otherwise, they will be earning, and we will have a hundred more unemployed and emigrants in Latgale," responded another commentator.
