The decision today by two deputies from the coalition partner Union of Greens and Farmers (ZKP) to support the request for the resignation of Transport Minister Atis Shvinka ("Progressives") is a matter of mutual cooperation among coalition partners, said Prime Minister Evika Silina ("New Unity") to the LETA agency.

This was the response of Silina to the question of whether such voting is a violation of the coalition agreement.

However, the coalition agreement states that the factions of partner cooperation and the deputies within them do not propose or support draft decisions of the Saeima regarding the expression of no confidence in the Cabinet of Ministers, the Prime Minister, or individual ministers.

Commenting on the votes of deputies Uldis Augulis (ZKP) and Janis Vucans (ZKP) regarding the resignation of Shvinka, the leader of the parliamentary faction "Progressives" Andris Shuvaev expressed the opinion that it is related "only and exclusively to the issue of the debts of the Ventspils port." "This confirms that the principled position of our party and the minister against narrow interest lobbying is inconvenient," the deputy stated.

"The fact that two coalition deputies supported the resignation of the minister indicates how unpredictable the coalition has become. In this context, it should be noted that if there had been a vote in the Saeima on the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture Armands Krauze (ZKP), I would no longer be able to predict the position of the 'Progressives' faction," Shuvaev said.

As reported, the majority of parliamentarians today rejected the draft decision prepared by opposition deputies regarding a vote of no confidence in the Minister of Transport Shvinka ("Progressives").

Among those voting for Shvinka's resignation were two deputies from the coalition - Augulis and Vucans.
