Recent activity and the public's reaction to domestic political events have proven that democracy is still sacred to Latvian society, said Dainis Ivans, the first chairman of the Popular Front of Latvia, in an interview with the TV3 program "900 Seconds."

Commenting on his participation in the protest against Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention at Dome Square, Ivans noted that the event took place at the right time and was able to positively inspire a very large part of society.

Ivans expressed his joy that society is still capable of uniting at the right time to defend its rights and democracy.

At the same time, he warned that serious attacks on democracy are observed in many countries in Europe and around the world, so it is necessary to closely monitor what is happening, including the actions and statements of politicians, their intentions, and to respond convincingly to them.

"We must be very vigilant because there may come a moment when it will be too late. I think it is already too late for the Georgian people; they missed the moment. It is not too late for us yet, but we must be very focused," Ivans said.
