The Jūrmala City Council plans to establish a Strategic Planning Committee, as outlined in the draft amendments to the municipality's statute submitted for public discussion, reports LETA.
The creation of a committee in the local government is justified by the need to ensure coordinated and targeted long-term development of the municipality.
"The overall development of the municipality is based on economic growth, which requires a coordinated approach to decision-making. The Strategic Planning Committee will be responsible for addressing issues related to both the general development of the municipality and the development of specific sectors under its purview, ensuring coordinated planning processes and balancing the interests of various areas," states the explanatory note to the draft regulations.
The committee will review decisions of the Jūrmala City Council concerning intersectoral development. Additionally, the new committee will address important organizational issues related to the work of the local government administration and provide opinions on draft decisions of the council concerning these internal processes.
It is planned that the committee will consist of five deputies.
Residents can express their opinions on the changes to the municipality's statute until November 13.
Until now, there have been seven committees in the council: the Finance Committee, the Committee on Municipal Economy and Transport, the Committee on Social Protection, Health, and Housing, the Committee on Education, Youth, and Sports, the Committee on Development and the Environment, the Committee on Culture, Tourism, and Resort Management, as well as the Committee on Security.
