Why are there still buses to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Minsk? Nationalists demand explanations

The National Alliance submitted a request to the Minister of Transport.

The National Alliance submitted a request to the Saeima to Minister of Transport Aitis Švinkis (“Progressives”) demanding an explanation of the actions of the government and the Ministry of Transport, which still allow public passenger transport to and from Russia and Belarus.

"Starting November 1, irregular passenger transport, namely excursions, trips to specific events, and other specially organized routes to the aggressor countries, is banned for one year. But this is only part of all routes - regular routes to cities in Russia and Belarus are still being operated. Currently, the list from the Road Transport Administration shows 13 regular bus routes, including to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Minsk, and even Smolensk.

The government cannot, on one hand, speak of solidarity with Ukraine, and on the other, continue to maintain regular communication with the countries responsible for the bloody war and human rights violations. The movement of public transport between Latvia and the aggressor countries not only threatens our security but also sends the wrong signal. This is yet another example of how the ministers of the Siliņa government simulate action - solving problems only with slogans, while in reality, cooperation continues," noted Saeima deputy Jānis Vitenbergs (National Alliance).

In the deputy's request, the minister is asked to clarify why regular passenger transport to and from the aggressor countries is not considered a security risk, while irregular transport, according to the minister's public statements, poses a threat. The deputies also ask what special conditions the minister is waiting for to finally initiate a complete cessation of passenger flow with Russia and Belarus.

The National Alliance laments that the draft resolution of the Saeima to ban public passenger transport to and from Russia and Belarus has still not been considered, although it was submitted back in February of this year.
