Debates on the 'hot' bill have been ongoing for almost two hours.
The hopes of opponents of Latvia's exit from the Istanbul Convention for some miracle were not fulfilled - the opposition, with the support of the 'Green Farmers', not only did not change their position but also disciplinedly (55 votes!) voted for the issue of adopting the relevant bill in its final reading to be considered at the beginning of the plenary session!
The head of the parliamentary faction of 'New Unity', Edmunds Jurevics, once again called from the podium for supporters of the denunciation of the convention to 'wake up', asserting that the convention is almost a matter of national security for the country. He also spoke about the possibility of some compromise if the consideration of the bill were postponed.
In turn, the chairwoman of the Saeima Foreign Affairs Commission, Inara Murniece (National Alliance), noted that if the ruling party wanted to find a compromise, the Prime Minister should have engaged in dialogue with the parliamentarians. 'And we would see that we have a Prime Minister in our country,' said I. Murniece.
Thus, the Saeima is close to making a decision on exiting the Istanbul Convention. However, debates are still ongoing, in which only opponents of the exit from the convention - deputies of 'New Unity' and the 'Progressives' party - are currently participating.
