The document has not yet been published and is based on a leak from the European Commission, reports Euronews.
Several bans and restrictions are planned, but the main argument of supporters of the ban on filtered cigarettes is ecology. Billions of filtered cigarette butts pollute nature every year. Opponents note that without filters, smokers will inhale more tar and toxins.
Additionally, there is a discussion about the idea of banning the sale of tobacco to people born after a certain year - as was attempted in New Zealand. There, a similar law was introduced but was immediately repealed due to a sharp increase in the black market.
A final decision has not yet been made. On October 17, EU countries will discuss the issue at a working meeting.
