Next week, in a closed meeting, the Ministry of Defense will inform the government about the purchase of remote anti-tank mine-laying systems.

Currently, it is not disclosed what funding is planned to be spent on the purchase of these systems.

As reported, the systems are necessary for the creation of the Baltic defense line. Back in early September, Colonel Andris Rieksts of the Joint Headquarters of the National Armed Forces informed the Saeima's Defense, Internal Affairs, and Corruption Prevention Commission that the purchase of counter-mobility obstacles would continue this year to form the line, and the acquisition of remote mine-laying systems and anti-tank mines is in the final stages.

The "Baltic Defense Line" project, aimed at timely preparation for possible Russian aggression, is being implemented by the Baltic states in cooperation with Poland. Finland is also considering options to strengthen its border. The project, which started in 2024 with a total budget of 300 million euros, is planned to be completed by 2028, after which additional measures may be required.
